Ume Aihara (藍原 梅 Aihara Ume?),[1] née Okogi (小此木?),[2] is the current wife of Shō Aihara, the widowed biological mother of Yuzu Aihara and the stepmother/mother-in-law of Mei Aihara.
Appearance[]
Ume is a tall adult woman with neck-length brown hair that has bangs styled on either side, green eyes and she has somewhat similar facial features to Yuzu Aihara.
Personality[]
Despite her age and the fact she's a mother, Ume is a childish, playful and immature young woman who is going as far as calling Shō Aihara a "tsundere" [3] and mocking Yuzu Aihara after she dyes her hair black despite being the one to tell her to.[4] However, she shows a more mature side sometimes [5] and she enjoys fashion and shopping, just like Yuzu.
Anime & Manga Differences[]
Episode 1
- Her name is revealed.
- Yuzu helps her unpack and go's grocery shopping with when she got home, this does not happen manga.
- In the manga, her discussion with Mei about Mei's life before she moved in with her and Yuzu takes place at the mall, but in the anime it takes place at home.
Etymology[]
- The name Ume means "apricot, plum" (梅).
- In Japan, the ume blossom is regarded as a symbol of spring and a ward against evil.
- Ume's surname Aihara means "indigo" (藍) (ai) and "field, plain" (原) (hara).
- Her former surname Okogi means "small" (小) (o), "this, current, next, coming, last, past" (此) (ko) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki/gi), which can be interpreted to mean "this small tree".
Trivia[]
- According to herself, Ume looked just like Yuzu Aihara after she put on a black wig when Ume was younger.
- As shown in Chapter 17, Ume drinks beer.
