Mitsuko Taniguchi (谷口 みつ子 Taniguchi Mitsuko?) is a graduate at Aihara Academy where she was the first Student Council president and the older sister of Harumi Taniguchi.

Appearance[]

Mitsuko has dark purple hair that is styled in a bowl cut reaching the height of her chin with a longer bang hanging on the left side of her face just long enough to touch her shoulder. Back in her Aihara Academy days, she had longer hair that she kept in a ponytail.[2]

Mitsuko bears resemblance to Harumi as both are tall and have voluptuous figure's.

Personality[]

Mitsuko is a cold and serious person, similar to Mei. However, unlike Mei who can be concessive, Mitsuko firmly believes that the school's rules should be kept at all costs. According to Harumi, during Mitsuko's time as the student council president, she ruled the school with an iron fist.[3]

However, she is capable of being kind and friendly to certain individuals, showing a softer side to herself: She cares for her younger sister and is genuinely bothered by Harumi keeping her distance and is good friends with Kayo Maruta. Despite her cold personality, she does have a compassionate side to herself in that she agreed to help Yuzu Aihara stop Mei's arranged marriage, despite knowing fully well how it was intended to benefit the school, showing that despite her coldness, she isn't apathetic to the feelings of others and at least recognizes and appreciates the significance of the relationship between Mei and Yuzu enough.

Background[]

Mitsuko was Aihara Academy's first Student Council president, and ruled the school with an iron hand.[4]

When Mitsuko was still the student council president in Aihara Academy, Mei apparently was the president of the Branch School and reported to Mitsuko. Mitsuko had high hopes on Mei as High School's student council president, and trusted Kayo, back then a first year student, with both the school and the next student council president.[5][6]

Etymology[]

Mitsuko can have different meanings depending on the writing such as 光子 ("shining child"?) or 睦子 ("harmonious child"?). However, Mitsuko has no actual meaning as it's written in Kanji/Hiragana, although "子" is the kanji for "child".

  • The name Mitsuko is written in kanji/hiragana (みつ子), which has no special meaning except the kanji "子" means "child". However, when part of the name Mitsu (みつ) is written in kanji (光, 蜜 or 美津), it could possibly mean:
    • 光 - "light".
    • 蜜 - "honey".
    • 美津 - "beautiful" (美) (mi) and "" (津) (tsu).
  • Mitsuko's surname Taniguchi means "valley" (谷) (tani) and "mouth, entrance" (口) (kuchi/guchi), which literally means "mouth of a valley" altogether.

Trivia[]

  • Based on Harumi's description, Yuzu imagined Mitsuko as a Harumi look-a-like dressed like a stereotypical Japanese delinquent and holding a club with nails running through it.
